FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 31, 2002
Physicians for Responsible Negotiation (PRN) is pleased to announce that the American Medical Association (AMA) has voted to approve PRN's request for additional funding through the end of 2003. This funding enables PRN to continue aggressive representation of salaried physicians currently engaged in disputes pending before the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, DC. In addition, PRN will continue work with the Medical Society of New Jersey's "Joint Negotiation Unit" to implement the state action doctrine passed earlier in 2002. New Jersey became the third state in the country to pass legislation allowing self-employed physicians to jointly negotiate with insurers and MSNJ promptly turned to PRN for assistance with strategy and organizing.
PRN currently serves as the collective bargaining agent for two groups of physicians in Michigan and Texas and has won every stage of litigation to date in a quest to represent 2 more groups of physicians in New Jersey and Illinois. In addition, PRN has over 250 individual and institutional Sustaining Members representing more than 70,000 physicians nationwide.
